Toolkit | Formula for Living: Simon & Tom Bloor
Wednesday 7 November, 6.30–8pm
£4 / £2 conc. / Free to ESP
Eastside Projects, 86 Heath Mill Lane, Birmingham, B14 7ER
In this talk Simon & Tom Bloor will discuss their experience of making public art. With a practice that looks at the fabric of urban environments, children’s play and the legacy of modernism, the Bloors have recently taken on a number of large-scale public commissions in addition to making drawings, sculptures and other works for gallery shows. For ESP they will share thoughts on how to approach making work for the public realm, how it differs from exhibition-making and they will describe the process (both frustrating and exciting) of seeing a public art commission through from application to planning to fabrication and installation.
Simon and Tom are Directors of Eastside Projects and members of ESP, and they live and work in London and Birmingham. Recent solo shows include Happy Habitat Revisited, South London Gallery, London, The Fascination of Islands, Cooper Gallery, Dundee, Hit and Miss, Modern Art Oxford, Hey for Lubberland!, Ikon Offsite projects, Birmingham and As long as it Lasts, Eastside Projects, Birmingham. They are currently developing new public artworks with Futurecity in London and Cambridge, and a temporary public work for Leamington Spa Gallery. They have been awarded the 2013 Whitechapel Gallery Children’s Art Commission.
