The third and final in a series of events exploring the context of contemporary art practice in China. Co-curators of the 4th Guangzhou Triennial, Jonathan Watkins, Director of Ikon Gallery and Jiehong Jiang, professor of Chinese Art at Birmingham City University, introduce the project and discuss their extensive experience of working in China.

David Rowan, who is currently exhibiting ‘Pacha Kuti X’ in the second gallery at Eastside Projects, will discuss his work with fellow Birmingham based photographer Stuart Whipps. Our first talk by artists working with photography, this conversation will offer two different perspectives on what it might mean to photograph the city.

The second in a series of events exploring the context of contemporary art practice in China, Elizabeth Wewiora, programme co-ordinator at Chinese Arts Centre, Manchester will introduce their projects and current artist in residence Ting-Tong Chang will talk about his practice. This will be followed by the screening of a recent interview, conducted by ESP member Rachel Marsden, with Xu Zhen of Madeln Company, Shanghai who are currently showing work in Birmingham as part of the 48 Sheet billboard project by EC-Arts.
