Routes to New Roots
Routes to New Roots is a collaborative project between The Community Integration Partnership and Craftspace to develop a craft social enterprise with newly arrived and refugee women.
Our first event following the initial development period celebrates International Women’s Day at a drop-in textile workshop with textile artist Ruth Singer, Monday 8th March 2pm – 6pm at the Town Hall. Participants can have a go at sewing and embroidery. Make a fabric brooch inspired by where you’re from or places you’ve been.
The Routes to New Roots exhibition showcases textiles and metal collage made by women during sessions at seven children’s centres around Birmingham. The women worked with professional artists Nicola Griffiths, Ruth Singer and Melanie Tomlinson to create pieces which explore the theme of journeys. The sessions were held to recruit women for the social enterprise and give them experience of different craft techniques.
